Tips for the Cleaning Carpets

It is an inflexible law that only astronauts can disobey and is called the Law of Gravity.

And this is very serious for the carpets, vinyl and any other, because, as they are on the ground, everything is likely to drop and stain fall on them. You do not have to take it the wrong way, nor does the law of gravity hate you: it is that they have made it that way because she is worth it.

That is why we need to have practical advice on how to clean carpets and react to each type of stain and each type of material. Because it is not the same to clean a vinyl carpet as thread or bamboo, and for that, we leave you here some ideas and super practical tips for carpet cleaning.

Five golden rules of carpet cleaning

·         Critical: clean the carpet stain before it dries, whenever possible.

·         First, test the products to be applied in an inconspicuous place and check the result before using it to the entire carpet or a visible part.

·         Do not apply the products directly on the carpet but on a clean cloth with which we will attack the stain.

·         Try not to rub: press with a cloth or sponge and warm water and avoid soaking the carpet's base with the cleaning liquid.

·         If possible, dry the carpet. Do not hesitate to use a dryer.

This is a general rule. Depending on the carpet's material and the type of stain, carpet cleaning solutions can vary, since as we said, cleaning a vinyl carpet has nothing to do with a cotton carpet, for example.

So now we are going to analyze the...

Carpet cleaning by types

1) Cleaning synthetic fiber rugs such as vinyl, polypropylene, or polyester

The synthetic carpets, such as carpets, vinyl, polypropylene, or recycling plastic, generally have the advantage that the fibers do not absorb liquids or substances, so that dirt does not penetrate the tissue. This makes it easier to remove stains.

·         Coffee, wine, and oil stains: absorb with kitchen paper and clean with warm water and mild soap.

·         Paint stains and marker, apply acetone or white spirit, and rinse with warm water and detergent.

·         Nail polish stains: apply acetone.

·         Chocolate stains: absorb with kitchen paper and apply mild soap; rinse with warm water and detergent. Note: it is better to eat the chocolate before, so, in addition to not staining the carpet, we have a good time.

·         Milk stains: apply warm water, mild soap, and a dash of vinegar.

·         Shoe polish stains, shoe cream, and lipstick: apply water with shampoo, rinsing with warm water with a little detergent.

2) Cleaning vegetable and natural fiber rugs such as jute and the like

Natural and organic rugs are more delicate and complicated than synthetic ones. But it is still possible to remove stains with these tips.

As a general rule, cleaning must be done basically with a vacuum cleaner. If you have to apply liquids, finally remove the moisture as much as possible and aerate before placing it on the floor.

If the stains are stubborn or challenging, we have these other solutions:

·         Butter and wax stains: apply mild soap with a splash of vinegar and warm water.

·         Grease stains: apply absorbent paper, then alcohol. When the alcohol evaporates, apply warm water with mild soap and a splash of vinegar.

·         Paint stains: mild soap with warm water, let dry, scrape, and vacuum.

·         Chocolate, honey, and jam stains: clean with a splash of ammonia dissolved in a glass of warm water. What a shame of cake we would have made!

·         Egg, coffee, and tea stains: apply mild soap, cold water, and a splash of vinegar or ammonia to the carpet.

·         Red wine stains: clean with water and 50% vinegar. It is advisable to give a slap to the person responsible for wasting good wine like this.

·         Lipstick stains: mild soap and warm water.

·         Nail polish and glue stains: apply acetone or rubbing alcohol.

·         Bloodstains: apply neutral soap mixed with a splash of ammonia, another of vinegar, and warm water.

·         Vomit and mud: allow to dry, carefully scrape, and vacuum. Then apply warm water with a splash of ammonia.

Cleaning acrylic carpet

·         For coffee, wine, and milk stains, absorb with kitchen paper and clean with warm water, detergent, and a splash of vinegar.

·         Chocolate stains: absorb with kitchen paper and apply liquid soap, then foam dry and brush.

·         Oil stains: absorb with kitchen paper, apply dry foam, then liquid soap, and finally rinse with a damp cloth.

·         Shoe polish stains, shoe cream, and lipstick: apply liquid soap and press. To clarify, use only warm water.

·         Nail polish stains: apply acetone, then foam dry and brush.

·         Paint stains and marker, apply acetone or white spirit and rinse with warm water, detergent, and a splash of vinegar.

Cleaning wool rugs

·         Fruit, juice, soda, beer, liquor, and wine stains: use water, mild soap, and a splash of vinegar.

·         Chocolate, cocoa, ice cream, egg, coffee, tea, milk, sauces, blood, and vomit stains: use water with neutral soap and a splash of vinegar and then dry cleaning solvent.

·         Chewing gum, lipstick, paint, urine, or excrement stains: they are cleaned by first applying solvent for dry cleaning and then warm water with neutral soap and a splash of vinegar and finishing again with the solvent.

·         Wax, cream, bitumen, oil, grease, butter, tar, or pen stains: clean with alcohol or gasoline, applying the product to a cloth, and then applying it to the paint gently, without rubbing, from the outside to the inside of the stain.

·         The nail polish will be cleaned with acetone, and the mud will be allowed to dry, carefully scraped off, and cleaned with water and a dash of ammonia.

Cleaning bamboo rugs

·         In general, bamboo rugs are easy to clean and do not require great care. These are the basic instructions:

·         Bamboo rugs usually have a light varnish coating the wood so that in case of stubborn stains, you should apply a little neutral soap diluted in warm water. Remember that any product used should be applied to clean and dry cloth and, if possible, white to eliminate any risk of color transfer.

·         The stains have to be cleaned at the moment so that no trace of them remains. To do this, if it is a spilled liquid, first absorb as much of the liquid as possible with a kitchen paper and then apply the diluted soap.

·         If a liquid has not caused the stain, it will be necessary to collect the stain's product using a brush and the same absorbent kitchen paper. Make sure that the meeting has soft bristles to avoid scratching the varnish. Finally, apply the diluted neutral soap.

·         For either type of stain, it is essential to wet the carpet as little as possible, and if the reverse has been wet, do not put it back on the floor until it has been thoroughly dried, with a dryer if necessary. It is also worth standing it upright and waiting for it to dry naturally.
