3 Significant services a car Locksmith can offer

The most common service provided by a car Locksmith is vehicle unlocking. However, they can perform additional services such as removing broken keys, duplicating or replacing keys, and – in some cases – replacing entire locks and ignition switches.

1.      Unlocking cars

How can a Locksmith unlock your vehicle without a key? They use different strategies to break into the car, all of which vary according to the type of car and the type of locking system the car has.

The most common strategy is to “open” the car lock. This involves taking a thin metal plate and sliding it between the rubber strips on the window and door to access the lock. For new cars with more advanced security systems, it is common knowledge that keys are no longer used. To unlock a car that does not have a lock but relies on a “keyless remote control,” the Locksmith reprograms the code so that you can gain access to the vehicle.

2.      Delete broken keys

The car keys can break due to natural wear and tear or sudden mishandling. This is not a common situation, but it happens often enough to require professional services. While it is usually not your fault that the key is not disturbed by the lock, removing it is impossible, and you will not be able to start the engine if the key is broken.

When a key gets stuck in a door or ignition, it usually gets stuck suddenly, exposing a small part of the key. The key extraction tool is a small piece of thin metal with two small hooks on the end to connect the key. Sometimes tools such as pliers can also be used to grip the sides of the wrench.

If the key is disconnected in the ignition, it is recommended that you do not attempt it yourself. If something goes wrong when pulling it out, it can cost more money and cause bigger losses than removing a broken key from the car door.

3.      Duplicate or replace keys

Qualified auto Locksmiths can use two types of car keys. The first is a car key that is not attached to any smart key or electronic component. The operation is very simple, not unlike duplicating a door key from a typical residential Locksmith. The difficult part is connecting the car key to the key fob. Some of these keys are transponder keys, meaning they have a chip designed only for this specific car. If there is no ignition switch to read the code programmed into the chip, the car will not start. You can ask the Locksmith to copy only the key part of the keyring. However, if it is a transponder key, you will need more hits!
